The revised version of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) has been endorsed by the Bologna Follow-Up Group (BFUG). The revision is now pending adoption by the Bologna Ministerial Conference, which will take place in May 2015 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The revision process started following a request by the European ministers for higher education for the original version, published in 2005, to be updated. The revised version has been proposed by the E4 group (ENQA, ESU, EUA and EURASHE) in cooperation with EI, BUSINESS EUROPE and EQAR and in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
The majority of changes have affected part 1 of the ESG, which relates to internal quality assurance at institutions. Reflecting the shift to student-centred learning, greater emphasis has been placed on teaching and learning processes and explicit links have been made to other tools such as learning outcomes and qualification frameworks. The new document is also much clearer, removing ambiguities and inconsistencies.
The revised ESG are available here and further information about the revision process can be found here. As part of the EUREQA project, the ESG will be presented at three national level events in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. These events will take place in late May and June 2015, and more information will be available in due course.
